What motivates you as you lead your team?
Our team achieves long-term success by consistently exceeding the expectations of all our stakeholders, including customers, employees, trade partners, owners, and the public. I consider my leadership position a privilege and an opportunity to guide others toward achieving common goals. The responsibility and challenge involved are what truly motivate and excite me.
What has been your biggest challenge as your company has grown?
The biggest challenge we’ve faced as our company has grown is managing the sheer number of obstacles that have come our way during this period of rapid expansion. I am incredibly proud of our team’s ability to learn, collaborate, and overcome these challenges, especially unforeseen ones.
What’s been the ‘secret sauce’ that has helped propel your growth?
Our growth has been propelled by an exceptional network of dedicated individuals, including employees, advisors, and partners. The main ingredient in Chancey’s sauce is this dedicated team of good people who care about our mission and consistently do the right thing. This dedication and a heavy dose of hard work have driven our progress and success.
What have you done to keep your company culture strong as you grow?
At Chancey Metals, our goals are meaningful and specific, forming the foundation of our company culture. Consistently articulating and communicating these goals while integrating them into daily decision-making has proved highly effective. Additionally, supporting continuous improvement initiatives that foster personal and corporate development keeps our team thriving.
What advice would you have for those who are looking to lead a fast-growing company?
Reconcile your strengths and weaknesses with the leadership requirements outlined in your business plan. Seek the advice of a qualified mentor or professional consultant to help with this assessment. Identify where assistance is likely needed and plan to obtain it early. Learning solely through experience can be slow and costly for most of us.
What challenges or opportunities do you see on the horizon, and how are you preparing for them?
We anticipate some macroeconomic headwinds that may impact the construction industry in the short term. We expect a slowdown next year, which presents an opportunity to strengthen customer relationships and refine our operating model, plant, and equipment.
Looking further ahead, the emergence of new technologies affecting our business is fascinating! We plan to invest heavily in this area for the foreseeable future. Just this month, July 2024, we will be testing a new-generation robotic welder and a drone-mounted scanner for construction sites. Innovations can add value across multiple goals, including enhancing safety, improving quality, and boosting customer satisfaction.
