THE
CHALLENGE

The enormous project maximizes a relatively small 6.1-acre parcel of land. Space was tight for all trades working on the development, and Chancey Metals had to be respectful of other contractors trying to perform their work. Our stair stringers – some as large as 18 treads – and railings totaling nearly 1,600 linear feet could not be delivered all at once. This created shipping and logistical challenges in coordinating crane operators over multiple phases instead of one continuous installation.

Another challenge, as is the case with every construction project, was time. Stairs are critical to the timeline of any multi-level project because most off-ground work cannot proceed without them. If we didn’t stay on schedule, the entire timeline would be at risk, and that risk is massive—a delayed schedule results in costly time extensions for all parties involved.

THE
SOLUTIONS

Communication and project management of the stair and railing installation was critical. Chancey Metals worked closely with CF Evans to understand when to deliver each completed stair package and what to include with each shipment. Collaboratively, it was decided the best solution was to have the loads in three phases to avoid an even tighter working space for all parties involved.

Chancey Metals owns all aspects of our projects, including delivery, so coordinating each of the separate shipments was not a problem. In addition, we managed communication and coordination with the on-site crane operators to ensure they would be ready to move the significant components into place for final installation.

Total ownership of our projects and efficient manufacturing ensured that we not only met our deadlines but delivered ahead of the scheduled delivery dates, allowing the project to progress ahead of schedule. Chancey Metals’ team members were on-site to meet the deliveries as soon as they arrived and installed rapidly based on our efficient project plan.

NET
RESULTS

Chancey Metals’ ability to coordinate, collaborate, and manage to a strict timeline ensured that the metal stair systems and roof-access ladders were installed with ample time to keep Morrison Yard on schedule.
